The London City Quartet formed in 2016, having met through all playing in the same orchestra. We are:
Francisco Jimeno is a Spanish violinist living in London. He is a great enthusiast and promoter of the contemporary repertoire and has been working with several composers in the creation and premiere of new works for his instrument. His collaboration with the Catalan composer David Bozzo has resulted in several pieces for solo violin, string quartet and violin and piano, with an active role in his review, publication and premiere.
Kathrina’s passion for the violin was evident from an early age, with Disney’s Fantasia inspiring her to a life in music. She is the Principal Second Violin for the London City Orchestra as she progresses from studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama to being a freelance musician. While at the Royal Welsh she studied under Yu Yasuroka, in addition to developing a taste for Baroque under the hugely influential Rachel Podger and was fortunate enough to partake in masterclasses with the renowned Danny Philips.
John was born into a musical family in East Sussex. Surrounded by music from an early age, he started lessons on the violin at primary school, moving to viola a few years later. While studying for his GCSEs John completed his Grade 8 on both violin (studying under Adrian Davies) and viola (with Stephen Giles). Following on from his sixth form studies at Sussex Downs College in Lewes, John moved to Southampton to study for his undergraduate music degree.
Alice is a cellist based in London and is currently studying her Master’s degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
Born in Hamburg in Germany, Alice Sophie received her first cello lessons at the age of seven. Together with her teacher Penny Driver, she accomplished her Grade 8 Cello in 2010 at Wells Cathedral School. During her time in Scotland received scholarship lessons with James Halsey at the North East of Scotland Music School.
