ABOUT ‘Are we sliding into genocide?’ Screening of ‘Cabaret’
While the Nazi Holocaust is no longer with us, the phrase “Never Again” cannot be said definitively because the structural and philosophical problems in our social and economic system that ultimately led to the Holocaust are still at play in the world around us. Modern-day Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and anti-migrant xenophobia are all part of the same tendency of conservative leaders to unload mass aggression at their policies against a racialised group.
ABOUT THE FILM
Cabaret is a 1972 cabaret musical film directed by Bob Fosse and starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Grey. The film is set in Berlin during theWeimar Republic in 1931, under the ominous presence of the growing Nazi Party. The film won the Academy Award for Best Director for Bob Fosse, Best Actress for Liza Minnelli, Best Supporting Actor for Joel Grey, and five more technical awards.
