Afro-Argentine Tango with Steve
Monday night’s dance theme continues with a weekly drop-in tango class. Tango has a fascinating 150 year history: it evolved partly from traditional West African dance. Since then more formal versions have emerged, but these sessions will be going back to that early style – full of spontaneity, improvisation and swing.
Each evening will begin with an introduction to an aspect of the dance’s history and culture (did you know tango is partly derived from breakdancing?), and a description and demos of how traditional tango works (it’s not ‘leader-follower’…) – the café will be open or you can BYO beer/wine. The action starts at 8pm prompt.
No experience or partner needed, no problem if you can’t come to each session.
Cost £8 (concs. available), half-price for anyone doing Nelson’s Artviva dance class beforehand.
